Since we have no good news to share about my employment visa for India, we continue to imagine what our life will be like in a matter of days? weeks? months?  We have anticipated this move for so long (well... February) and we've read articles, blogs, and books about India to prime ourselves for this adventure.  The latest book I'm reading is "Speaking of India: Bridging the Communication Gap When Working with Indians" (very relevant right now as we struggle to communicate with the visa officer at the Indian Embassy).

One chapter discusses "Indian English" and offers a list of words and expressions that are unique to India.  How many can you figure out?   (ANSWERS UPDATED)

  

     Fresher = a novice, someone who just started
     A cover = an envelope
     She's eating my brain = giving me a hard time
     Bills = receipts or invoices
     Prepone = move forward an appointment, opposite of postpone
     Good name = a polite way to ask someone their name
     Curd = yogurt
     Snaps = snapshots, photos
     A mixi = a blender
     Canteen = cafeteria
     A real time pass = waste of time
     Homely = a good home-maker/housewife
